Mobile County Schools are encouraging educators to limit student school supplies to the basics.
School supply lists have become more and more extensive and parents are having a difficult time buying school supplies each year. What about parents that have more than 1 child to buy for? Should Mobile County Schools provide school supplies for all students? Where will the money come from?
Many communities are taking it upon themselves to make sure that needy families are provided for. One such program is the Fill the Bus Campaign. On two days out of the summer, two school buses park in the Walmart parking lot accepting donations for the area schools. Other communities are working together and combining resources to make up for the difference.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good question to pose, but I'm really don't know how to answer it. I do feel that the student that can't provide their own supplies should receive them from the school; but, is this fair. Since there isn't much money to buy these kind of things, those studnts that can afford them, should buy them, and those that can't shouldn't have to go through the school year without.
ReplyDeleteHow are we going to determine if a student can afford their own school supplies?
